Think Safety When Choosing Baby Nursery Bedding

Last week I accompanied my news reporter friend to a seminar organized by a Baby Care Organization. It was mainly on Baby-Safety. An estimated 2, 500 new born babies die every year. The researchers found that many SIDS are caused due to suffocation by extra accessories like pillow, blankets etc. Here I'm presenting the views of expert pediatricians about crib sets for new parents.

The sheets especially should be a snug fit over the mattress. Most crib sizes are now fairly standard, but it is always better to check before buying. Some sheets and mattresses now come with elastic straps that can be used to tighten the fit of the sheet. This is very important because of the risk of suffocation by fitting sheets.

Before selecting the crib set, be sure about the material used, whether it is hypoallergenic or not. There are so many adorable crib Bedding sets in the market that any one may get puzzled choosing from them. From theme based crib sets like hello kitty, John Deere, Winnie the pooh, ladybug to beautifully designed with attractive color combination Glenna jean, Cocalo etc. Other than these there are many sets especially for baby boys or girls. The sets include mainly bumper, comforter, bed sheet and dust ruffle.

Also, when purchasing a cover to go along with your duvet bedding, you want to note the thread count. The thread count represents how many threads can be found in every square each of the cover. The number can range from 100 to 1000. The higher the number, the softer your duvet cover will be. Average quality thread counts range in the 300 to 500 area.

Your babies bedding set should come with bumpers. The bumpers are plush like pillows and protect your babies limbs or head from getting stuck between the rails on the crib. Use caution when using those right away as well. Yes I know the bumpers bring out the ambiance of the crib along with the skirt that comes with the bedding. Just don't allow the beauty affect for guest allow you to make a lapse in judgement as far as safety is concerned where baby sleeps.

For a luxury look add several different sizes and shapes of pillows on top of the bed. Choose several coloured pillows that go with the comforter. For the headboard, it is nice to use two large bed pillows stacked against each other for a feeling of depth. Now you have a bed that looks like a room designer did the work!

When I say luxury I mean everything from the sheets to the quilt on top of your bed. Bed sheets are categorized by the thread count in a square inch of linen material. As the thread count grows in number, it becomes softer. An average bedding set's sheet has around a 90 thread count. These are nice but a count of 300 is more luxurious. The higher the thread count, the more expensive the sheets become.

The design should have a lot of fluff, swirls, and curls. Try thinking about what little girls favorite thing are: flowers, clouds, hearts, stars, dogs and other babies.
