Quilt V .. Comforter: A Bedding Dilemma
If you don't have a sewing machine, you have a lot of work to do. I don't recommend quilting a blanket without a sewing machine if you are looking for a quick easy blanket, even if you are a super fast sewer. If you are really fast at sewing, you probably don't have a desire to sew a quick quilt anyway but are looking for more complicated and challenging projects. If you don't have a sewing machine, you should get one. If you aren't planning on doing any sewing besides this project and don't want to buy an expensive sewing machine, ask a friend if you can borrow theirs.
Don't be afraid to use your handmade quilt. The layers and the warmth of the batting make it perfect for keeping you warm cold winter nights. Even after many years of use, this author has several quilts that are still in excellent condition.
Never store your handmade quilt in a plastic bag. The fabric needs to breathe. Storing it in a plastic bag for a long period of time may result in yellowing and discoloration of the beautiful fabrics.
Make bookmarks. Cut the block into strips about three inches wide. Fuse them to another piece of fabric cut the same size. Hot glue rick rack around the edges for a no-sew finish. Crafty people comfortable with sewing may use a zig zag or satin stitch to finish them out. If hand stitching, use a blanket stitch to complete the edge.
Blanket Quilt The third layer is the side that lays face down on the bed and is called the quilt backing. Even though the backing is not always seen the fabric color should complement the quilt design and be made of a durable cotton fabric that will not tear or fray when machine washed.
You may integrate your child's interests into the quilts that they may use. In this way you help them know you are in for supporting them in achieving their dreams and enhancing their individuality. The quilts may also serve as their relic of their childhood experiences that they could bring with them through the rest of their lives.
These down throw blankets are the best ones to have for your baby because they are made with natural products that are gentle and easy to wash. You wouldn't have to hassle yourself cleaning away all the baby stain. When selecting the perfect blanket, make sure to check the stitching as well. Those with regular V stitching are the ones to have. Those with quilt squares and box stitching are also recommended. These types of stitching secure the down in place. You can also even the blanket out after a tumble in the washing machine. If the quilt doesn't have these kinds of stitching, it's likely that the down will bundle up together after some use. Your blanket will end up uneven and lumpy and your baby wouldn't like it.
As far as using a detergent is concerned do not go for the type that is used for casual wears as it would be harsh and fade the colour. Instead go to craft, sewing or fabric stores where one would easily get mild washing powders made especially for delicate fabrics. These days' liquid detergents which are very gentle on fabrics are easily available in supermarkets as well. Make sure to set the washing machine accurately as per the requirement. The bed cover gets very heavy when it is wet because it is made up of three layers so it will also need lot of physical effort.
