We have a wonderful family tradition of everyone making at least one homemade gift for Christmas to give another family member. My children have all made at least one blanket to give a family member. The fabrics are fun to choose and put together as we think of the personality of the family members. We have a daughter very much into music so there are always musical motif fabrics in her quilts, a son who loves insects so a quilt with ants or other insects are often made for him. Blanket Quilt A unique hand crafted quilt will become special when you make it by yourself. You can also make an especial gift with some embroidery. It is not compulsory whether you are familiar with the set of skills required for the embroidery or not, it is about to be yourself! Make an exclusive gift with either crochet or embroidery with child's name and date of birth on it.

A hand quilter will use a frame or a hoop to keep all pieces together while using a variety of basic running stitches in and out of each piece while stretched taut. Squaring the quilt: After the pieces have been sewn together take a couple of measurements on the upper half and lower half of your quilt. They should be the same. Also take a couple of measurements the other direction. If they are the same you should have an evenly proportioned quilt.
